Touch & See: Art Therapy on Display
Touch & See: Arts Therapy on Display
For over twenty years, the LCCA has worked to provide art therapy to children and adults with disabilities, through both the Lancaster County School District and the Lancaster-Chester Disability and Special Needs Day Center (DSN). We are pleased to announce that, through the generous funding of South Arts, we are embarking on a new initiative in partnership with DSN: Touch & See - Arts Therapy on Display.
This new program will expand the work that we are already doing, share it with a wider audience, and give our community the opportunity to be a part of this essential and life-changing work!
Here are just a few of the programs we are running in 2026 as a part of this project:
Touch & See: Tactile Gallery Exhibit
April - May 2026
In April and May, we hosted our first tactile art exhibit in the Historic Springs House Gallery. Thank you to everyone who joined us for field trips, family nights, and just to explore the gallery! Your creativity made this exhibit one-of-a-kind!
Special thanks to:
- Local artists Dianne Mahaffee, Beckee Garris, Marcia Houston, and Abbey Hunter who contributed one-of-a-kind pieces for this exhibit.
- Crochet artists Fran Gardner, Kim Stivers, Andrea Miller, Naomi Ottaviano, Rachel Baird, Jane Alford, and AnneMarie Cipot for their contributions.
- Rishabh and Namita Rao, students from Bellevue, Washington, for partnering with us to enhance accessibility. Through their non-profit, Reliefeelable, they are applying machine learning and image processing to create 3D-printed models of 2D works, making it more accessible to the visually impaired community. We appreciate their dedication to helping us break down barriers in art and invite you to visit the gallery to experience these tactile models.
Creative Collaborations
January - June 2026
This year we launched a new creative arts mentorship program! This program pairs local artists and DSN participants to share creative skills, collaborate on original artwork, and display their art in a public gallery exhibition. Participating artists play a vital role by sharing their artistic expertise and working alongside participants to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
The pieces created through Creative Collaborations were displayed in the Historic Springs House during the month of June.
Opening Reception: Sunday, June 14th, 3:00 - 4:30 PM
Pop-Up Exhibits
